New Developments at the Academy

The Primary playgrounds and Upper Girls’ playground have seen a complete transformation with new surfacing and a new set of play apparatus. The addition of three 3G football pitches in the Boys’ Upper section will follow later this year.

The IB learner profile provides a series of long-term learning outcomes for the 21st century. They describe the type  of students the IB program hopes to shape throughout the full continuum of IB programmes – Primary Years, Middle Years and Diploma Programme. The Academy operates all three programmes.

With the IB mission statement at its heart, the outdoor areas at the Academy are being transformed to provide increased opportunities for sport, recreation and learning. The investment in high quality play spaces, equipment and resources will provide a multitude of benefits to students from increasing heart rates, developing fundamental movement skills and improving brain function to improving confidence, self- motivation and teamwork .

Outdoor play supports the development of key physical skills like balance, agility, strength and co-ordination. Through active outdoor play – be it structured and supervised or free and spontaneous- our students will develop physical and social skills for life. In addition to outdoor play, the wider environment has also been enhanced to provide opportunities for outdoor learning and students’ learning will take place outside wherever possible.

Physical literacy looks to the future and aims to integrate physical activity and outdoor learning into everyday life. The outdoor areas have been developed to allow for progression and physical development that is directly linked to levels of self confidence, self esteem and self belief that are vital to learning and the development of the learner profile. The progression has been planned from Pre-KG through to IB2 and upon completion there will be opportunities for all to take part in activity. The Primary playgrounds are complete, the Upper Girls’ playground is underway and the addition of three 3G football pitches will follow later this year.
