The King Fahad Academy is hoping to be authorised for the IBO’s Primary Years Programme. The PYP curriculum framework, designed for children aged 3 – 12 years, focuses on the development of the whole child, as expressed in the main learning themes of the programme: Who we are; where we are in time and place; how we express ourselves; how the world works; how we organize ourselves; sharing the planet. Out of this inquiry-based programme has developed the IB student profile’, describing the qualitieis each child should be aspiring to acquire and develop. The aim is to help them to become “inquirers, thinkers, communicators and risk-takers, who are knowledgeable, principled, caring, open-minded, well-balanced and reflective.” At the King Fahad Academy we are working towards introducing the PYP curriculum gradually, within the safe confines of the classroom. Many aspects of it are already in place; there is topic-based inquiry, development of language skills, and plenty of opportunity to discuss and explore a variety of themes. New, stimulating teaching materials have been obtained and teachers follow an ongoing programme of professional development.
